When Information Arrives Too Late
When pollution incidents occur, public anxiety is driven less by exposure than by uncertainty. Visual cues appear immediately, while official information often lags. This article explains why delays in early communication escalate confusion and distrust, and outlines what clear, timely updates should deliver in the first hour to stabilize public response.

Where You Breathe Matters
Air pollution is experienced locally, not as a citywide average. Small choices in how and where you move, such as waiting at intersections, taking parallel streets, or choosing set back paths, can meaningfully change exposure. This article examines how everyday routes shape what you breathe and how simple spatial adjustments can reduce pollution exposure over time.

New Waste Management Plan in Vienna
Vienna has adopted a new waste management and prevention plan for 2025-2030, shifting from disposal toward a circular system that reduces hazardous inputs, improves material recovery, and strengthens wastewater and stormwater infrastructure. Measures such as sewage sludge drying, phosphorus recovery, and sewer upgrades aim to cut industrial pollution, protect rivers, and lower long-term health and remediation risks.

Danger of Industrial Pollution
Industrial pollution extends beyond visible smoke to contaminated air and water, hazardous waste, and persistent chemicals that accumulate quietly over time. While industry brings economic benefits, unmanaged pollution raises health risks, ecological damage, and long-term costs. In Austria and Vienna, strong monitoring, source reduction, and cross-border cooperation along the Danube are essential to protect public health while sustaining economic activity.

OMV Schwechat Incident
On 15 April 2025, an operational failure at OMV’s Schwechat refinery triggered high safety flaring, producing a visible flame and prompting public concern and emergency calls. Authorities confirmed there was no fire and that procedures worked as intended. While environmental impacts were likely limited, the incident highlighted how repeated flaring and delayed communication can affect air quality perception and public trust near major industrial sites.

How Clean Was Your Air Today?
Air quality changes from street to street, shaped by traffic, density, and how cities move. Research across Austria and South Korea shows air quality closely reflects broader environmental pressure, while Vienna’s averages hide sharp daily and local variation. This campaign invites you to notice those differences as you move through the city and ask one question: How clean was your air today?
